indulge in the savory delight of Italian cuisine with our Polpette al Sugo. These tender meatballs, lovingly prepared and cooked with the richness of Colli Siciliani olive oil, served in a flavorful tomato sauce.
Ingredients:
500g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper to taste
Colli Siciliani extra virgin olive oil
700ml tomato passata or crushed tomatoes
Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Grated Parmesan for serving (optional)
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
Shape the mixture into meatballs of your preferred size, usually about 1-2 inches in diameter.
In a large skillet or frying pan, heat Colli Siciliani extra virgin olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs to the pan, cooking in batches if needed, and brown them on all sides. Remove and set aside.
In the same pan, add tomato passata or crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper and bring to a simmer.
Carefully return the meatballs to the pan, ensuring they are submerged in the sauce. Cover and simmer gently for about 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
Once done, garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve the Italian-style meatballs hot, drizzling a bit more Colli Siciliani extra virgin olive oil if desired. Optionally, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
